SLED: Berkeley County man charged with insurance fraud

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The South Carolina Enforcement Division has charged a man with insurance fraud on Wednesday.

Jonathan Terraine Reid-Boyd, 25, is charged with presenting a false claim for insurance payment valued at $10,000 or more and forgery, valued at $10,000 or more.

The suspect knowingly submitted a false claim for insurance payment to Progressive Insurance Company around Sept. 15, 2023.

He then submitted false medical documents for unreceived services and also altered a legitimate document by increasing the cost for medical services that were billed to receive financial gain. Those documents were confirmed by Roper Radiologists, the medical provider, to not reflect their billed amounts.

Reid-Boyd attempted to collect $43,473,17 in total, according to the affiant.

He was booked into the Berkeley County Detention Center.

The case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Department of Insurance.
