Man accused of fraud and forgery in insurance scheme

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — A Lexington County man has been charged with forgery and insurance fraud involving more than $10,000, according to SLED.

31-year-old Granison Dwight Peterson Jr. is charged with forgery valued at $10,000 or more and presenting a false claim for an insurance payment valued at $10,000 or more.

The investigation was requested by the South Carolina Department of Insurance.

According to the arrest warrant, Peterson provided a false Employment Verification letter stating that he worked as an independent contractor for a company called MellyGirl Logistics.

He is accused of then submitting the letter to Geico Insurance to collect for lost wages, according to the arrest warrant.

According to the arrest warrant, authorities found that MellyGirl Logistics does not exist.

Peterson was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.

The case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Department of Insurance.
