DALTON, Ga. — A Dalton insurance agent is accused of taking thousands of dollars from customers who believed they had coverage.

33-year-old Lucy Margarita Suarez faces several felony charges, including five counts of insurance fraud and one count of forgery, according to the Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation

Investigators say Suarez owned and operated EliteOne Solutions on East Morris Street in Dalton.

Authorities claim she told customers they were buying workers’ compensation insurance, then kept the premium payments for herself.

A release from the Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation says the investigation found she issued fraudulent certificates of insurance to clients as proof of coverage.

As a result, officials say business owners and contractors believed they were insured when they were not.

Investigators say the scheme cost victims thousands of dollars.

Suarez was arrested April 29 in Miami and transported to the Whitfield County Jail.

Officials say the case could expand.

Authorities are asking anyone in the Dalton or Whitfield County area who purchased workers’ compensation insurance through EliteOne Solutions to contact investigators.

They also recommend verifying insurance coverage directly with carriers or through the state’s website.
