NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) – Deputies have arrested two people accused in a string of Nacogdoches County car burglaries, and using the stolen money to buy cars in Houston.

Kalisha Donzhane Anthony, 32, of Nacogdoches and Jarvis Jamontrae Cornelius Harper, 25, of San Augustine are both facing several charges related to the burglaries, according to Nacogdoches County Sheriff Jason Bridges.

Bridges said the investigation began in the early morning of May 15 when vehicle burglaries were reported in the North Fork Estates subdivision on County Road 2091. Over the next few days, a series of vehicle burglaries were reported in the Melrose area near County Road 411 and on Highway 7 on May 20.

There, the burglaries stopped. Based on the amount of money stolen, investigators were able to determine the pair left the area and were later able to identify one of the suspects.

“Once we made positive identification from the first person, some tips led us to the second person in the investigation. And from there, we developed car information and things just started kind of going our way,” Bridges said.

Investigators determined the two suspects were from Nacogdoches County and were now in Houston, where they had purchased two vehicles using stolen money.

A task force was set up, and deputies arrested the pair just before midnight on May 21.

A search warrant of their home found a stolen gun, pistol magazines, credit cards and other items taken from the vehicles.

Some items were recovered and returned to the proper owners, but some money spent could not be recovered.

“Instead of getting a job and going to work every day, like honest people do, they want to go out and steal from people and, uh, try to take the easy way out, but they’re going to learn that there’s no easy way out when you do wrong,” Bridges said. “We’re going to do everything possible to solve these crimes and hold them accountable, so they know not to come back to Nacogdoches County.”

He said residents should always lock their vehicles and bring their guns inside.
