Texas NICB Agent Assists with Alabama Investigation

An individual in Texas was reportedly in possession of an alleged VIN-switched vehicle using a cloned VIN from a vehicle located in Alabama. The NICB assisted law enforcement by conducting research on the VIN, using the VIN breakdown along with LPR images of the vehicle both in Texas and Alabama, and a physical inspection of the vehicle in Texas to conclude that the vehicle located in Alabama was the true vehicle. The vehicle in Texas was determined to be a VIN-switch stolen out of Alabama. Further investigation revealed that the individual in possession of the vehicle in Texas obtained the vehicle from a relative who allegedly fraudulently registered the vehicle in Oklahoma before transferring the title to Texas. That relative is reportedly serving nine years in federal prison. The member insured vehicle, valued at $38,525, was recovered.
